Recognize: When You’ve Been Here More Times Than You’d Like to Admit

Recognize (been here way more than 3 times )
Let’s be honest: we all have that one place we keep going back to, whether it’s that quirky coffee shop where they know your order by heart (thanks for judging my caffeine choices, Karen), or the corner booth at your local diner that’s practically become your second home. You step in and the waiter greets you with a smile that says, 'Ah, you again! Did you forget your lunch yesterday or just have a hankering for our legendary fries?' You might pretend to look around as if you’re considering other options, but in truth, you’re more loyal than your grandma’s recipe for spaghetti sauce. There’s a certain comfort in the familiarity, like an old sweater that’s cozy but slightly smells like lost hopes. But how do you recognize when your frequent visits have crossed the line from casual patron to regular? Firstly, if the staff knows your life’s story better than your therapist, it’s time to reevaluate. I walked into my local café last Tuesday, and before I could even order, the barista said, 'So, have you decided on a life path yet, or are we still doing the existential crisis thing?' If that’s your reality, congratulations! You’ve leveled up to 'frequent flier.' Secondly, if you spot the furniture rearrangement because you inadvertently set your coffee cup down fifty times in the same spot, there’s a problem. I once had a “conversation” with my chair at my favorite pub, which goes like this: 'I know you're sturdy, but could we change the vibe a little? Maybe a couch next time?' Then, there’s the all-important moment when the establishment names a menu item after you—or worse—when they create a drink called 'The Regular' with your mugshot plastered on the wall. Yes, it’s flattering, but also panic-inducing. Suddenly, you're a literal poster child for pattern repetition. Lastly, you truly know you’re a regular when you suddenly realize your wallet is slimmer than your social life because you go out so frequently. You’ve memorized the cocktail list, but have forgotten what it’s like to eat dinner at home. So, what’s the solution? A little self-awareness never hurt anyone. Try mixing it up! Go somewhere new, challenge your taste buds, and emerge from your comfort zone like a butterfly leaving the cocoon (only slightly less elegant, and maybe more likely to spill your drink). Life is full of hidden gems waiting to be discovered, and if you’re brave enough to step away from your beloved haunt, you might just find a second love story! In conclusion, we all have our favorites, and there’s nothing wrong with revisiting them. After all, even the most seasoned world travelers have a soft spot for that one particular café with the best scones. Just remember to explore the world a little beyond your ‘been here more than 3 times’ zone! Your taste buds, and perhaps your wallet, will thank you for it.
